The Ballater Walking Festival is now in its 29th year! It started when the Chairman of Ballater Community Trust and the CEO of Scottish Enterprise discussed a community engagement event tied to our natural tourist resource – namely hills and walking.

Today we have the sophistication of professional guides, the internet and booking processes, but the family feel still runs through the event.

Most of the Leaders and all helpers are local volunteers, contributing to this amazing event out of love for the hills and the area.

2027 will have a programme that is bigger than ever, with seven days filled with walks from interesting strolls, special interest excursions, intermediate walks with stunning views, to adventurous, off grid climbs for the strenuous walkers.

Whether you are an experienced hillwalker or simply enjoy exploring beautiful landscapes at a more relaxed pace, there's a walk to suit everyone. As a not-for-profit organisation, all proceeds from the Ballater Walking Festival are reinvested in the local community through donations to village clubs, charities and community organisations. So, by taking part, you are also helping to support Ballater and the surrounding area.
